Nothing fancy here, just a small independent woodworker cranking out these GORGEOUS hefty floating shelves at a price that won't break the bank!

Handcrafted from kiln-dried live edge Black Walnut slabs, each shelf is sawn to your desired dimension and planed flat and square to approximately 1 3/4 - 2" thick. And baby let me tell ya, these are true slabs, not glued up strips of board. We hand select each walnut slab to ensure you're getting a shelf with a beautiful grain pattern and contrasting dark heartwood with lighter sapwood that transitions to the live edge. Now because this is wood, each shelf may contain naturally-occurring knots, splits, voids and insect holes. When deemed necessary to ensure structurally integrity, these are filled with epoxy and sanded smooth. Otherwise, natural variations and imperfections are to be expected and celebrated for the unique character they add to each and every shelf we handcraft.

Our shelves are also machine-routed and bored to accept the included mounting bracket. The heavy-duty steel mounting brackets we include feature stout 3/4" rods, attached to a backplate with keyholes every 1/2" to ensure mounting to as many studs as possible, no matter what the spacing between studs. It's the strongest, most reliable way to hang these shelves. In typical scenarios where the shelf is mounted to sheetrock over studs, the bracket can support a weight of 55 lbs per stud they are attached to. All you need is the appropriate wood or masonry fasteners for a simple DIY installation. The end result is a completely hidden, flush mount for a TRUE floating effect.

Finally, each live edge shelf is stripped of any bark, all surfaces sanded smooth down to 220 grit, and sealed with multiple layers of satin varnish. Our meticulous finishing process brings out the rich tones and figuring of the wood grain, and ensures a durable, water+scratch resistant finish that doesn't look like Maw-maw's plastic fruit centerpiece. And hey, if you like a little bark with your shelf, we'll customize the live edge to retain as little or as much as you like. Like a good gumbo, the preparation is always 'to taste'.

If you need a dimension not listed above, please still select the closest dimension, and specify the exact dimensions in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS section of your shopping cart. Also, if you would like to retain any bark on the live edge, note that as well.
